Job Summary

Job Duties

• Facilitates system level programs for practice improvement, standardization or reduced practice variations, and new and continuing education, research and innovation for employees, self and community to support professional competence and professional growth
• Communicates system-driving strategies to enhance desired behaviors and compliance.
• Effectively communicates vision, goals and initiatives of the System Nursing Institute across the organization.
• Effectively incorporates goals, vision and system priorities into responsible department plans.
• Participates effectively as a member of committees and departmental and divisional leadership teams.
• Bridges gap between inpatient and outpatient nursing by developing infrastructures for communication, practice and education.
• Serves as a system resource related to Nursing Practice Standards.
• Provides oversight and direction to usage of Foundation Funds for Nursing and contracts.
• Facilitates team- based problem solving within and between departments.
• Is a key role model and mentor for nursing leaders and direct care staff within Geisinger.
• Utilizes team-building concepts and shared governance strategies to effectively empower team members by serving as a mentor, teacher and coach.
• Facilitates nursing practice based on evidence and best practices, and consistent with nursing standards.
• Improve the work unit, department, division and system by developing performance expectations and goals that focus on service, quality and cost.
• Communicates a clear description of performance expectations and goals to employees, encouraging and supporting their participation.
• Establishes top percentile benchmarks and directs action plans to address out of benchmark performance in conjunction with leaders of each platform. Works collaboratively with campus/clinic leadership in the development of nursing practice that supports Magnet accreditation and other required regulatory/best practice expectations.
• Collaborates with the campus leaders on issues of patient care and nursing care standards at each platform and across ambulatory clinics.
• Develops and implements departmental and divisional educational programs.
• Is responsible for the Geisinger Nursing educational budget in conjunction with Nursing leaders and financial liaison for the platforms/clinic.
• Monitors and maintains cost effective utilization of assigned resources.
• Provides oversight and leadership for a comprehensive nursing research program with demonstrated patient and family outcomes, and practice innovations.

Work is typically performed in an office environment. Travel may be required. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
