Gundersen Health System
Gundersen Health System (GHS) seeks a dynamic Chief Operating Officer (COO) who is well versed in integrated delivery network (IDN) operations. GHS is a $1.4 billion IDN based in La Crosse, WI, with more than 9,000 employees that serve over 20 counties in western Wisconsin, southeastern Minnesota, and northeast Iowa. GHS has clear strategies related to advancing care through innovation. This will be a unique opportunity to partner with an exceptional leadership team and a highly mission-oriented organization in execution of the promise of transformation. GHS is a physician-led health system with a history of excellence in care, experience, outcomes and research. The COO is accountable for the clinical operational performance and will focus on optimal balance between functional/line management and matrix/service line management. This senior leadership team member will be looked upon to harness, connect and empower the collective expertise in the organization to ensure exceptional performance across all clinical operations. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO ensures that operations support the mission, goals and objectives of GHS. The COO maintains responsible budgeting, reporting and monitoring of results to ensure the financial integrity of the organization and takes a leadership role in facilitating changes to enhance outcomes and efficiency. The COO also collaborates with external partners including in the community, local and state governments and will represent GHS across the nation with other peer organizations. GHS is seeking a confident executive with a track record of success in IDN operations who fits well in an innovative and transformational culture and has the ability to contribute broadly to the organization's success. The COO will be a driven, innovative servant leader who can create a vision and deliver results in a growing and evolving healthcare organization. This leader will equally be a strategist and executor and will bring system-level thinking, while focusing on the mission and direction of GHS. GHS is a highly collaborative organization, and the COO must build strong relationships at all levels to deliver excellent patient, provider and employee experiences. The role requires a strategic, humble and empathetic leader. A clinical background/licensure in Nursing or Pharmacy or other clinical disciplines, would likely prove beneficial in this particular role.
