Works in collaboration with the Office of Strategy Management leadership (SVP/VPs) to facilitate and coordinate activities relating to the formation and execution of strategy at Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS). Leads System wide process to proactively identify the impacts of market changes on business strategies and proposes strategy refinements. Works with System leadership to set strategic vision and objectives for the organization. Directs the development and implementation of initiatives including service line management, delivery network strategy, clinical program planning, and capacity planning and new business development initiatives. Proactively identifies key trends in new clinical and information technology and forecasts resulting impact on the business. Translates strategic goals and objectives into operations and execution. Develops, facilitates, implements and evaluates programs and initiatives designed to improve process efficiencies and positively affect quality, safety and/or achieve cost savings across Yale New Haven Health System. Functions as an internal consultant to senior management, internal and external consultants relative to strategic cost management, change management, organizational design and development, and performance metrics. Oversee the development and maintenance of OSM quality control, reporting, analysis protocols, project management processes and strategic intelligence.
1. Management Skills
1.1 Works with all levels of staff and management across the System, leading complex, politically sensitive initiatives.
1.2. Oversees the development and maintenance of OSM talent management strategy including selecting, developing, evaluating and recognizing talent.

2. Strategic Planning
2.1 With the OSM leadership and system senior executives, develops and implements the overall strategic direction and short-term corporate objectives for Yale New Haven Health System
2.2. Creates performance management structures (DNEC, DNORs) to facilitate dialogue on performance and opportunities
2.3. Identifies major national, regional, and local trends and forecasts potential impact on business strategies.
2.4. Directs and facilitates the annual YNHHS strategic dimensions environmental assessments.
3. Business Development
3.1 Directs the assessment of market position, developments, trends, forecasts, demographics and strategic options and assesses potential new business development opportunities, in both inpatient and outpatient services.
3.2. Leads in the development of competitive strategies that may include additions, deletion or enhancement of services and diversification strategies.
3.3. Assesses programmatic strengths and weaknesses, identifying and assessing business opportunities, and evaluating potential joint ventures.
4. Network Development
4.1 Participates with the OSM leadership and system senior executives in the planning and implementation of health system affiliations.
4.2. Creates sales presentations, directs the affiliation analysis process, including the coordination and management of external consultants and legal counsel.
4.3. Directs and coordinates the due diligence review process and the Hart-Scott-Rodino filings, assists with Certificate of Need development, manages broad array of project activities related to the affiliation process.
5. Strategic Execution
5.1 Serves as a senior management resource by providing expert knowledge of quality improvement theory/methodologies, statistical analysis, and problem solving relative to individual hospital and system wide workflows and processes.
5.2. Directs the development of meaningful and impactful analysis using a data driven, methodical approach to problem solving and sustaining achievements, in areas of assignment.
5.3. Oversees project milestones, priorities, resource requirements, and communication strategies relative to major OSM initiatives. Develops and mentors embedded resources in skill sets necessary for effective project management.
5.4. Oversees the development of specific dashboard metrics to allow timely analysis and monitoring of key department indicators to allow for appropriate tracking mission critical initiatives.
5.5. Conducts advanced budget analyses, revenue projections, ROI analyses and various payer or expense budget components and projections. Assists in broad array of analyses including budget, business plans and productivity analyses.
6.1 Directs the work of professional and support staff in support of the above goals. Evaluates conflicting needs and determines priorities to ensure timely completion of work and adherence to deadlines. Responsible for the selection and training of new personnel to fill budgeted vacancies.
6.2. Directs supervision of activities performed by contracted agencies associated with the planning functions.
6.3. Directly responsible for preparation and management of departmental budgets.
6.4. Maintains professional affiliations and participates in community, industry and professional associations to represent Hospital interests and keeps abreast of development in the health care industry.
Advanced degree in Clinical Field, Business, Public or Health Services Administration required.
8 to 10 years professional work experience, in an integrated health care system.
Experience in strategic planning, health system and/or service line planning/business development, and/or management consulting.
Experience in data analysis, reporting and effective presentation required.
Previous project management and leadership experience required and with demonstrated experience in leading a performance improvement team of professionals focused on hospital organizational.
Experience in an academic medical center preferred.
