The community you’ll be caring for: Our mission is to provide an environment where students can develop spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically while pursuing professional expertise integrated with Christian values
The role you’ll contribute: The VP/Dean of Nursing is responsible for visionary leading throughout certificate, bachelor, master, and doctoral nursing programs, in addition to working collaboratively with academic administration and other academic departments for high quality program development and implementation. The VP/Dean of Nursing will be a person of high integrity, a courageous and transformative leader, a change agent, builder, and risk taker. As a visionary leader, the VP/Dean of Nursing will build on the current success of the University and its faculty and develop the department as a national leader in teaching, research, practice, and service. The VP/Dean of Nursing will also work with other internal and external partners, including AdventHealth Chief Nursing Executives to align key organizational nursing needs, provide intellectual leadership, strategic direction, scholarship advancement, and change management for the dynamic future of nursing education.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Evaluate the nursing department’s current organizational structure, resources, and management, making appropriate changes necessary to support its continued growth. The VP/Dean of Nursing will engage faculty in the process of continuous improvement of the curriculum and the identification of changes, enhancements and additions that address both current and anticipated demand.
Establish a strong partnership with senior leadership of the program’s clinical partners, including AdventHealth, demonstrating entrepreneurship and innovation regarding how the nursing department can help to address the system’s, region’s, as well as the state’s, health care needs. This will include establishing strong partnerships with the chief nursing officers and other senior leadership within the clinical partners and proactively identifying opportunities to expand the nursing department’s programs that will address the region’s workforce demands. The VP/Dean of Nursing will be a member of various AdventHealth nursing councils related to workforce, strategy, and vision planning.
Establish prominence to the nursing programs by actively participating in local, regional, state and national health care and academic organizations (e.g., local hospitals, health departments, CCNE, AACN and other accrediting bodies, professional nursing organizations at the state, national and international levels). The VP/Dean of Nursing will participate in influencing health policy for the state and region in alignment with AHU goals.
Direct the budget process and manage fiscal resources across the nursing department. Identify and develop an infrastructure and allocate resources to support operations as appropriate while ensuring long-term department viability. The VP/Dean of Nursing will consult with leaders to inform AHU’s operational and capital budget and actively participate in development efforts to increase private support from individuals, foundations, and corporations for initiatives that promote the quality of education as well as the continued quality of faculty research and clinical practice.
Drive the organization's efforts to promote, attract, recruit, develop and retain high performing employees and leaders while fostering a culture focused on delivering world-class nursing education achieved through an exceptional and highly engaged workforce that is committed to continuous improvement.
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field
A non-nursing doctoral degree needs at minimum to have a graduate degree in nursing
Evidence of successful leadership in academia and practice; as well as success in an educator role
Minimum five years in clinical practice or higher education
Experience in organizations where continuous improvement has been part of the organization’s fabric
Experience with institutional and programmatic accreditation standards and regulatory requirements
