The AVP, Finance, Geisinger Health Plan is responsible for the leadership of the accounting function for Geisinger Insurance Operations, including financial reporting, statutory reporting, financial planning, financial analysis, billing and accounts receivable, self-funded account administration, medical payables disbursement, commission administration, capital budgeting, and fixed assets. Directs the development and maintenance of internal controls, improvement of NAIC Model Audit controls, and a continuous focus on administrative efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsible for the preparation, filing, and auditing of the Statutory and GAAP financial statements for Geisinger Insurance Operations entities.
Oversees the accounting and reporting regarding Centers of Medicare and Medicaid revenue, expenses, and accruals for the Medicare line of business.
Directs and coordinates the audits of the financial statements including external and regulatory audits.
Serves as the primary liaison with the external auditors.
Primary contact for financial reporting and accounting issues dealing with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance, Department of Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Geisinger's financial executives, and internal business unit leadership.
Oversees the design, development, planning, and implementation of a comprehensive system of financial reports, which provide leadership with financial and operating results.
Provides insights into drivers of financial results compared to operating budgets.
Collaborates with other senior leaders to propose recommendations for operational and product line improvements and changes.
Develops and implements plans for accounting and financial policies, procedures, and systems.
Monitors and assesses external environment, trends and legislation.
Make recommendations to develop and adjust strategy to meet the changing business and market conditions.
Directs the activities for the Geisinger Insurance Operations' entities to meet the requirements of the NAIC Model Audit Rule.
Leads the committee comprised of Geisinger Health Plan and Geisinger financial leaders in developing an enterprise risk assessment management process producing an annual, Own Risk Self-Assessment for the Board of Directors and subsequently filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance.
Serves as Geisinger Insurance Operations assigned chief financial officer with the Department of Health and Human Services for the health plan's Medicaid managed care contracts.
Directs the accounts receivable management team in the implementation and execution of policies and procedures to ensure timely and accurate billing and collection of receivables consistent with regulatory requirements.
Directs the broker commission process to ensure contractual timeframes for processing checks are met.
Encourages automation of processes and procedures to ensure accurate and timely payment consistent with annual Board approved internal compensation and external broker commission plans.
Integrates the development of annual budgets and the long-range financial plan.
Coordinates with other Geisinger finance leaders on intercompany activity, reconciliation, and collaboration of Geisinger initiatives.
Reviews the work of the exempt and non-exempt individuals reporting directly to the position.
Provides individuals reporting directly to this position with guidance, training, counseling, and feedback.
Prepares and conducts performance appraisals for individuals reporting directly to this position.
Monitors work flow and overtime within the department and works with managers to redistribute or prioritize work accordingly.
For certain positions, coordinates interview process, interviews applicants, and selects candidates for employment.
Remains sensitive to issues within the department and works with staff to resolve conflicts.
Ensures consistent application of policies among staff.
