The CEO will fill the position previously held by Michele Volpe, who was promoted to the System Chief Operating Officer of University of Pennsylvania Health System/Penn Medicine. This executive leadership position requires a collaborative, respected leader across the system who can effectively lead as a medical center CEO while simultaneously embracing, and advancing the integration of programs and practices that are beneficial to the performance for PPMC and UPHS/Penn Medicine and its patients as an integrated system. This individual must be effective working in a matrixed structure in which collaboration and working effectively across organizational structures is essential. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of UPHS/Penn Medicine, the CEO will provide overall leadership for the growth and performance of PPMC.
The successful candidate will have broad operational and executive leadership experience within an academic medical center or major teaching hospital, or similarly complex healthcare environment. Candidates should have demonstrated experience leading operational and strategic initiatives, leading approaches to improving the access to and quality of care, and experience partnering with physician leaders on program development. The CEO must be able to articulate a vision to meet future challenges, and be committed to a strategic and transformative response to the changing dynamics in healthcare, including the increased fiscal pressure on academic priorities. Candidates must demonstrate and champion contemporary approaches to recruiting, retaining and developing a workforce, including championing diversity, inclusion and equity initiatives. Because engaging in a visible way with the community is critical, candidates should effectively build relationships with a variety of community constituents.
