Avoca Search is excited to partner with St. Lawrence Health in Upstate New York in their search for a Vice President of Quality & Patient Safety. This is an excellent opportunity for a strong nursing leader grounded in quality and process improvement who is committed to patient safety, employee engagement and making significant impact on rural community health.
The VP, Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for planning, implementing, directing and/or evaluating patient safety initiatives throughout SLH. They will utilize their knowledge of best evidence-based practice, combined with knowledge and experience of front-line clinical operations and the elements of the science of safety to provide the leadership to improve measures of patient safety improvement across the system. The Vice President will also serve as a direct resource with a high degree of both clinical and technical expertise for patient safety improvement teams on the methods and practices of improving patient safety in health care organizations. In addition, the Vice President works with clinical leaders throughout St. Lawrence and Rochester Regional Health Systems to improve on their safety measures through education and continuous coaching and will work in collaboration with appropriate leaders to identify the appropriate culture of safety survey tool and analysis for the organization.
The VP, Quality and Patient Safety will coordinate and deliver quality improvement and compliance programs aimed at developing the culture and competencies necessary to achieve strategic business objectives, continually improve effectiveness and efficiency and continually evolve to meet new business challenges. This role is accountable for developing and overseeing comprehensive quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) systems and fostering a culture of continuous improvement; developing and overseeing systems that ensure compliance with established standards of practice, applicable state and federal laws and regulations and DNV accreditation standards; and advising leadership on performance measurements, risk assessments, and initiatives related to QAPI and compliance.
SLH has begun the journey towards Magnet designation and will be applying as a system. Improvement in quality outcomes will be a crucial part of the success of the system in obtaining Magnet status. Systemization of quality goals at all campuses and primary care locations will be a major focus for the new leader.
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
At least 10 years of clinical experience advancing through nursing profession, 7 years progressive program/project development and quality improvement experience in a healthcare setting including at least 5 years of experience in leadership and administration supervision.
Significant experience in compliance and quality control, quality improvement, and quality assurance.
Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or related field and a BSN or RN. CPHQ and/or Six Sigma Green Belt or higher are preferred.
