The Hampton & Peninsula Health District is seeking to hire a Physician to join a team of clinical professionals who are committed to providing the best care and service to the residents of our district.
This position serves as Deputy Director responsible for formal supervision of certified nurse practitioners by assigning, scheduling, reviewing, and formally evaluating their work. Following established standards, policies, and procedures, the position provides direct medical care to clients in accordance with accepted standards of practice. Performs examinations, diagnoses, counsels, and prescribes treatments for patients, makes referrals as needed to other medical and clinical specialists. Ensures staff compliance for applicable certifications, licenses, and standards. Provides physician support to district programs to include reviewing charts for state and federally mandated public health services such as Nursing Home screenings and Communicable Disease programs, provides physician and administrative oversight to medical clinics, provides leadership with up to date information and any required data to make appropriate decisions regarding community health programs. At the discretion of and with guidance from the District Health Director assumes administrative oversight of clinical preventive programs and /or community preventive programs. Participates in Emergency Preparedness and Response for the District.
This is a full-time position and eligible for excellent benefits, such as: 15 paid holidays; medical, dental, vision & life insurance; retirement plans including the Virginia Retirement System, 401a Cash Match and 457 Deferred Compensation Plan; and sick, family/personal and annual leave. In addition, this position generally has a family friendly work schedule, consisting of 40 hours per week. Hours are usually 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Graduate of accredited medical school. Board-eligible or Board certified in medical specialty
License to practice medicine in the State of Virginia and active DEA license.
Strong supervisory skills and experience
Good administrative and communication skills.
Knowledge and experience in managing communicable disease and contraceptive care
Experience in interviewing, examining, diagnosing and treating patients in an outpatient setting
