The Desert Healthcare District was created in 1948 to serve residents within a 457-square-mile area of the Coachella Valley. Areas served include Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Thousand Palms, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, Coachella and other unincorporated communities. The Desert Healthcare District’s mission is to achieve optimal health at all stages of life for all District residents. It is funded primarily through a portion of Riverside County property tax collected in the Coachella Valley, as well as public and private donations and lease revenue.
