Rooks County Health Center (RCH), a 20-bed critical access hospital with two rural health clinics, located in Plainville, Kansas, has an exciting opportunity for a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). RCH operates under the governance of a hospital district with a five-person elected Board of Trustees.
RCH built a new hospital facility in September of 2008. Since RCH opened the new hospital, the volume of inpatient and outpatient services has increased dramatically, leading to two subsequent expansions. The first involved the addition of a permanent MRI and Nuclear Medicine facility. The second allows RCH to meet the rapidly growing needs of the clinic and rehabilitation areas by integrating the various therapy areas (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Cardiac Rehab and Speech Therapy) into a new arrangement and consolidating outpatient services into one location. The hospital has an effective area of service of nearly 1,300 square miles and an effective service population of over 8,000 citizens of northwest Kansas.
The CEO reports to the five-member elected RCH Board of Trustees and is responsible for general management and supervision of all aspects of the organization, including operations, financial, and service line development. Supervises the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Nursing, Chief Operating Officer and other department heads within the organization. The full-time medical staff features four physicians, three physician assistants, and one nurse practitioner. Net patient revenues are approximately $20M+. RCH has approximately 170 employees and is the largest employer in both Plainville and Rooks County.
Rooks County is located in the Smoky Hills region of north central Kansas with a population of just under 5,000. The county boasts numerous recreational opportunities, including city parks, swimming pools, multiple golf courses, Plainville Township Lake, Rooks County State Lake (64 acres), and Webster Reservoir & State Park, located about eight miles west of Stockton. Webster State Park is an 880-acre prairie setting of rolling hills where visitors often see deer, turkeys, quail, pheasants, and many wildflowers. The 3,700 acres of open water offer great fishing in Webster Reservoir. The reservoir complements the picturesque Chalk Hills. Webster Wildlife Area encompasses 8,018 acres mostly surrounding the Solomon River west of the reservoir. A variety of wildlife habitats are developed and maintained to enhance wildlife. The lake is known for its quality walleye, crappie, white bass, and channel catfish.
Plainville is located just 25 miles from Hays, the largest city in northwestern Kansas with a population over 21,000 and home to Fort Hays State University, with an enrollment of nearly 13,000.
RCH is seeking an energetic, strategic and visionary leader to guide RCH through the complex issues and reimbursement challenges currently facing rural healthcare organizations. The CEO will demonstrate excellent communication and relationship skills and can work with a diverse group of people, including the board, staff, physicians, donors, community partners and patients. RCH seeks individuals that will foster a culture of collaboration, be approachable, thoughtful, ethical and possess the business acumen to maintain and enhance the organization’s financial viability.
