Emergency Physicians of the Rockies (EPR) is a physician-owned emergency medicine group headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado. Since its founding in 1977, EPR has grown into a leading provider of emergency medical services across Northern Colorado, delivering care to approximately 220,000 patients each year.

EPR partners closely with UCHealth to staff four hospitals and two freestanding emergency departments throughout the region. The organization includes more than 80 board-certified emergency physicians and over 40 advanced practice providers, all supported by a dedicated corporate team.

Physician leaders are actively involved in organizational decision-making, and EPR continues to evolve alongside a dynamic healthcare landscape. In addition to hospital-based care, EPR provides medical direction for one of Colorado’s largest EMS systems, extending its reach well beyond the emergency department.

EPR is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure the consistent delivery of safe, compassionate, and high-quality emergency care. This role is central to maintaining operational excellence while supporting sustainable growth and innovation.

Working in close partnership with the President/CEO, Chief Medical Officer, and Board of Directors, the COO will help shape and execute both short- and long-term strategic priorities. This individual will serve as a key advisor to executive and physician leadership, translating strategic vision into effective operational execution across the organization.

KEY DUTIES

1. Lead and execute operational strategy, including processes, infrastructure, and policies todrive growth, efficiency, and profitability.
2. Develop and implement business plans and initiativesaligned with organizational goals and long-term vision.
3. Establish and monitor KPIs and performance metricsto evaluate effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
4. Drive operational and financial performancein partnership with executive leadership, ensuring achievement of key targets.
5. Analyze data and performance trendsto inform decision-making and optimize organizational outcomes.
6. Lead, manage, and oversee corporate office personnel, including directors, managers, and administrative staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, collaboration, and high performance while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational priorities.
7. Identify and support strategic growth opportunities, including expansion and service development initiatives.
8. Build and manage strategic partnerships and vendor relationships, ensuring high performance and value of outsourced services.
9. Oversee contracting and negotiations with third-party payers, ensuring favorable terms and compliance.
10. Lead budgeting, forecasting, compensation models, and resource allocationto support financial health and sustainability.
11. Ensure organizational excellence through leadership and oversight, including compliance (HIPAA Privacy/Security Officer), workforce performance, policy implementation, and culture development.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Masters in Healthcare Administration, Business, or equivalent.
2. Five or more years of medical practice administration.
3. Demonstrated track record of excellent strategic and organizational performance.
4. Commitment to high-quality operational excellence and effectiveness.
5. Skilled in analyzing situations accurately and taking effective action.
6. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, business alliances, third-party payers, patients, and the public.
7. Personal integrity and adherence to ethical business principles.
